ℹ️ European Accessibility Act (EAA) Mandatory by 2025

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) requires companies to make digital content, including videos, accessible by 2025. Our player helps you meet these regulations with features like subtitles, audio descriptions, and intuitive keyboard navigation.

Features of the Accessible Player

The accessible player is our standard player, meaning all other features are, of course, included. To ensure accessibility in line with the European Accessibility Act (EAA), we highlight the following:

  • WCAG 2.1 Compliant & Future-Proof

Our player is regularly updated to align with the latest standards set by the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and WCAG 2.1 guidelines. All existing integrations benefit automatically from these updates, ensuring your video content remains accessible and up-to-date.

  • Option to Upload Subtitles AND Captions

Our video player supports the integration of both subtitles and captions, allowing them to be uploaded separately. This feature enhances accessibility by providing text-based representations of the audio content, catering to diverse viewer needs.

  • Cookie- and Consent-Free

Our player allows videos to be displayed directly without the need for cookie overlays, thereby eliminating an additional accessibility barrier. This ensures a smoother user experience and respects privacy by default.

A Word from the Ignite Founders

Designing for accessibility often stops where GDPR comes to play. Cookie-Banners or 2-click-options, often inaccessible.

Our goal is to make our player as inclusive as possible, following the WCAG standards that form the foundation of the European Accessibility Act (EAA). We’ve integrated these principles into our standard player (we only have one), ensuring accessibility across all implementations – whether our clients prioritize accessibility or not. You get everything you need to meet compliance requirements, plus additional features for an enhanced video experience on the web. So if you're goal is to meet the EAA, you're more than fine with Ignite.

That said, there are cases where you might need even more functionality. For example, if you’d prefer sign language interpretation to be toggleable instead of embedded directly into the video – that’s not something we offer yet. Projects like Aktion Mensch (German) or Able Player have made strides in this area.

We’ve made great progress because this is important to us, but we’ll be honest – we don’t claim to have the most inclusive player out there. Yes, we are EAA-compliant and more. Despite the marketing buzz above, we don’t want to give the wrong impression. We’re very open to feedback and suggestions to improve further in this area.
