Vimeo vs. Ignite

European Alternative to Vimeo

Ignite is a certified, legally secure video hosting solution from Europe (Germany) and a better alternative to the US provider Vimeo.

In addition to a similar range of functions and pricing model, Ignite is cookie-free, GDPR-compliant with maximum performance and a seamless integration into your website. Switching Vimeo and cookie overlays will increase video views on your website by 30 to 60%

Together, we are setting new standards and shaping the future of the web, so that videos finally work the way they should.

Ignite vs Vimeo in Practice

We always talk about being "cookie and consent-free." But what does that mean in practice?

Let's take Best of Content Marketing as our client. About 50% of the visitors did not click "Accept" on the cookie banner. For exactly these visitors, all Vimeo videos had to be removed from the website. In other words: every second visitor(!) sees a large gray box instead of a Vimeo video on the homepage.

We're not data protection evangelists, but if we have to solve such a problem to avoid this horror, then we'll just solve it. In this case, the switch was made quickly. Feel free to take a closer look at the case.

The Honest Comparison: A Word from the Ignite Founders

Is this one of those marketing pages trying to convince you? Yes, in a way, it is. Let's try an honest assessment. We love our product and know that we have the better solution for businesses in Germany. You've put significant effort into producing your videos, and you should neither be restricted in where and how you integrate them nor should you have to hide them.

To ensure your videos reach 100% of your visitors, we focus heavily on data protection and a “consent-free” integration.

  • You can't put a paywall over videos for monetization (that would require us to capture user data).
  • We're also not a software for editing videos. There's no option to re-cut the video. Others can do that better, and they can do it significantly better than Vimeo.
  • However, you can easily coordinate them within your team with our collaboration feature.
  • We don’t have a complex event or webinar platform. Of course, you can upload your long videos with us and integrate them into your system (e.g., with our API). We can do live-streaming, but we don't host your event with participant registration or similar.

If you really need such features regularly, then Vimeo might be the better choice. If you rarely require such capabilities, we wouldn't sacrifice the reach of your videos for them. If you are in Europe and care about no restrictions in website UX, we are the right choice. In other words, if you care about your visitors and want 100% of them to see your videos.

If you comply with GDPR, you cannot implement autoplay videos with Vimeo and must place cookie overlays over your videos. Also, in the DoNotTrack version. We've tried it too. It just doesn't work. Sounds cool?

It is easy and free to try. No credit card required. The trial period ends automatically.

Meme: every high cost video you produced for your websites relies on visitors accepting cookies
